Tips for parents about safe work of children on the Internet

  The number of computers connected to the Internet grows every day. At the same time, connection to high-speed channels is becoming more and more common among both corporate and home users. This means that more and more children have the opportunity to work on the Internet, and therefore the problem of the safety of our children on the World Wide Web becomes extremely urgent. Since the Internet developed uncontrollably from the very beginning, it now contains a huge amount of information, including a lot of dangerous information. In connection with this, as well as the fact that the age at which a person begins to work with the Internet is becoming younger and younger, the problem of child protection arises.

And who will help them in this, if not their parents?

  1. Parents should know:

Cruel behavior and harmful influence on children and adolescents on the Internet includes:

  • Production, distribution and use of materials depicting violence, including sexual.

  • Clinging or "courting" in the network, entering into the trust of a woman in order to involve her in a situation where she may be harmed.

  • Display and promotion of materials that can cause psychological, physical or other harm.

  • Harassment, blackmail or intimidation, including stalking.

  1. How to control the behavior of children on the Internet?

Parental control of children's behavior on the Internet is possible with the help of various software:

  • Windows Vista;

  • Kaspersky Internet Security.

Using this software, you will be able to:

  • filter harmful content;

  • find out which sites your child actually visits and what he does on them,

  • establish time frames for using the computer in general and the Internet;

  • block some unwanted actions from your children and so on.

  1. Tips for parents:

    • Even before purchasing a computer or smartphone, it is useful to establish with the child the rules for its use — duration, goals, means, limitations.

    • At first, it is desirable to put the computer in the common room, to use it only together, and the child should be taught to discuss with his parents everything that happened to him on the network, and to share with the children his own impressions of virtual immersions. And parents should not be ashamed to ask them for tips or help!

  2. Next steps:

    • It is necessary to warn the child that any personal information that he leaves on the network can be used against him - either simply for hooligan reasons, or for selfish purposes. Therefore, it is absolutely unacceptable to tell anyone your real name, let alone your address or bank card number.

    • On the other hand, you need to learn to be critical of any information received from the network; to know how to check its authenticity, how and for what it can be used.

  3. Attention, parents!

    • Limiting virtual social contacts of children of a certain age is particularly difficult, and bans will not help matters here.

    • It is smarter to get a promise that even when the child wants to meet with some of his virtual acquaintances "in real life", this meeting should take place only in a public, safe place, so that the parents know about it, and with mandatory "control calls".

    • Children should understand that they are not left alone with virtual problems, what they are, who to discuss these problems with, who to turn to for help.

    • It is also necessary to remember that a child can become not only a victim of virtual criminals, but also commit illegal actions.

    • Few people in our country think that by downloading stolen anti-virus programs or by leaving anonymous comments on various sites, we ourselves demonstrate the children's virtual impunity and permissiveness, which in real life we resort to much less often.
